Working for Marriage Equality at Tacoma Pride
July 16, 2012 by Guest contributor
This post comes from Brittany Blue Gaston, one of HRC’s organizers in Washington State working with Washington United for Marriage:
This weekend, we teamed up with Washington United for Marriage to talk to our supporters at Tacoma Pride about the marriage equality referendum on the ballot this fall, and how they can get involved to make sure Washingtonians vote to approve Referendum 74 in November. Now is our best chance to talk to supporters about the why they need to do their part and make sure they don’t wake up on November 7 wishing they had done more.
Folks came from all over Pierce County to celebrate pride and learn about how they can get involved. State Representative Laurie Jinkins, an openly lesbian state legislator, and a lead sponsor of the marriage equality bill, spoke to the crowd about Washington United. Folks came to our both to sign up and learn more.
Field organizers are across the state working and talking to voters every day. To join one of our phone banks, visit the Washington United events page by clicking here.
HRC is proud to have been a founding member of the campaign to pass marriage equality in Washington State, working side-by-side with state partners. You can sign up here to volunteer with HRC to help mobilize supporters of marriage equality in Washington. Learn more about the campaign to protect marriage equality here.
