White House officially announces John Berry as OPM director
March 3, 2009
President Obama has officially announced the appointment of John Berry as director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), confirming the news first reported in the Washington Post's Al Kamen's column in January. In a press release issued today by the White House, President Obama said:
From turning around the National Zoo to fostering a more productive work environment at the Department of the Interior, John Berry has a tremendous record of effective management in key public service roles. I’m confident that he will provide that same leadership at OPM to help ensure that government works for the American people the way it should.
The Office of Personnel Management essentially functions as the human resources portal for federal agencies and provides the American public with up-to-date employment information. OPM also supports U.S. agencies with personnel services and policy leadership including staffing tools, guidance on labor-management relations and programs to improve work force performance.
