White House Holds Conference on LGBT Aging Issues in Miami
May 7, 2012 by Robin Maril, Legislative Counsel, Administrative Advocacy
Today, the White House hosted a conference on LGBT aging as part of a series of LGBT summits being held across the country.
Attendees from across the country attended the conference at the University of Miami and heard from administration officials, including keynote addresses from the Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee and Raphael Bostic, Assistant Secretary for Policy and Research Development at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Assistant Secretary Greenlee also serves as the Administrator for the newly formed Administration for Community Living. Last fall, Assistant Secretary Bostic also spearheaded the first LGBT elder housing summit hosted by HUD.
Today’s conference gave attendees an opportunity to attend breakout sessions on topics impacting LGBT older adults including health, housing, and security. Each of the sessions allowed local and community leaders to engage in substantive conversations with key officials from the administration, creating a real dialogue on LGBT aging issues.
