White House Conference to Shine Light on Obstacles LGBT Families Face
April 27, 2012 by Paul Guequierre
Tomorrow, the White House will hold its LGBT Conference on Families at Burroughs Community School in Minneapolis. The conference, which is the fifth in a series of LGBT conferences hosted by the White House, will shine a light on the obstacles same-sex couples face as they simply try to live a good life and raise children in today’s society.
The conference will feature senior members of the Administration. Bryan Samuels, Commissioner of the Administration on Children, Youth, and Families, Department of Health and Human Services; Stuart Delery, Acting Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division, Department of Justice; and Senator Al Franken (D-Minnesota) will deliver remarks.
HRC today released an issue brief on LGBT families . The brief serves as an overview ahead of the conference and outlines some of the major issues LGBT families face in America, including the lack of legal protections and discriminatory laws and federal policies.
