‘What Would You Do?’ Tackles Transgender Discrimination
May 7, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Associate
Recently on ABC’s “What Would You Do?” producers staged an episode of verbal harassment against a transgender waitress. The waitress is played by Carmen Carrera – a real-life transgender woman who competed in Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race before coming out as transgender.
Patrons repeatedly come to Carmen’s defense when the actor at the counter starts insulting her. Carrera says she hopes the episode will open eyes and minds to the discrimination faced by transgender people in the workplace and beyond. A previous episode of "What Would You Do?" featured a confrontation between a mom and her transgender child.
