We’ll Keep Fighting in Colorado
April 1, 2011 by Adrian Matanza, Senior Regional Field Organizer
Last night, after long hours of testimony from both supporters and opponents of equality, the Colorado House Judiciary committee voted 6 to 5 against SB172, the Civil Unions Bill. Earlier, the bill easily passed the Senate, with all 20 Democrats voting in favor of the bill.
While Republicans have a simple majority in the House (33-32), supporters were hopeful that the bill would have a chance passing the full House. However, voting along party lines, every Republican on the House Judiciary committee voted against Civil Unions, effectively killing the bill for the session.
We congratulate One Colorado on their hard work on getting the bill this far and look forward to continuing our partnership with them and the Colorado community.
