Waves of Support for Equality on the Jersey Shore

Ocean Grove blog photoThe easy-going,  laid back beach community of Ocean Grove was jolted into activism when a lesbian couple was denied the opportunity to commemorate their civil union on the beach pavilion by its owners. Within weeks, hundreds of community members, straight and gay, showed their solidarity by flying HRC equality flags in front of their homes. This past weekend, Ocean Grove United supporters showed their appreciation of HRC’s ongoing support by throwing a party. It was an honor to come back here, this time with my partner and two sons, to celebrate the ongoing fight for equality with these new friends.  It was like a family reunion.  We’re working together for a better Ocean Grove,  marriage equality in New Jersey,  and respect and rights nationwide. It wasn’t all work.  The next morning I took the kids to the beach.
