Watch: Robbie Rogers on Coming Out and his Return to Professional Soccer
June 3, 2013 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Coordinator
When Robbie Rogers took the field with the LA Galaxy on May 26, he did so as the first openly gay male to play in a U.S. professional league.
Rogers came out to the world in February in a post that also announced his retirement. He talks about the rush of emotions he felt when drafting that message as well as his decision to return to professional soccer in a new interview with CBS This Morning.
Asked how his coming out might impact other LGBT athletes, Rogers says: "Once athletes realize that they won't be treated any differently and that they'll be judged on their performance just like any athlete, then they'll all feel free to be open with people."
