Watch: Laverne Cox Discusses Transgender Character in ‘Orange is the New Black’

Actress Laverne Cox joined HuffPo Live this afternoon to discuss her role as transgender inmate Sophia Burset in the new Netflix original series Orange is the New Black.
The series has received praise for its complex representation of a transgender character and for calling attention to discrimination faced by those transgender people incarcerated in U.S. jails, prisons and detention facilities.
Cox – who is transgender herself – talks about intersections of race and LGBT issues, the humanizing power of storytelling, and strategies for being a better transgender ally. Check out the clip below.
