Washington State Counting Nears 80K; Equality Opponents Issue Complaints

WA-DP-approve-ref-71_logoAnother day, another batch of numbers from the Washington State Secretary of State's office in the continuing counting of signatures that will determine whether the new comprehensive domestic partnership law is put to voters in November to approve or reject. The new total of signatures checked is 79,195 out of the 137,689 submitted. The new error rate reported is 11.67 percent -- up from yesterday's 11.32 percent.  For referendum 71 to make it to the ballot, the error rate needs to stay below about 12.4 percent. The Secretary of State's office also posted a strong defense of their methodology yesterday after criticism from the opponents of domestic partnerships (our opponents).  Gary Randall of the Faith and Freedom Network claims the process is rushed and careless.  I invite anyone to take a look at the Secreatary of State's blog and make their own judgement as to how thorough the process is.
