Washington, D.C.’s Ford’s Theater to Honor NCOD & Matthew Shepard

candlelight vigilThis Friday in Washington, D.C., Ford’s Theater will hold a fundraiser and candlelight vigil to honor National Coming Out Day and the 15th anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s passing.

Ford’s Theater will donate all of the proceeds from Friday’s performance of The Laramie Project to the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Due to the government shutdown, the performance will be held at 7:30 at the First Congressional United Church of Christ. The candlelight vigil will take place at approximately 10:15 p.m. -- immediately following the performance -- on the sidewalk outside of Ford’s Theater.

Matthew’s father, Dennis Shepard, will deliver remarks and Rev. Dwayne Johnson of the Metropolitan Community Church of Washington will lead an interfaith moment of silence. Members of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington will also perform.
