Video: One Anchorage Responds to Opponents’ Transphobic Ad
March 29, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Coordinator
Yesterday, we posted about an offensive, transphobic and legally inaccurate ad released by equality opponents in Anchorage. Learn more about why the ad gets it so wrong.
Our partners at One Anchorage have released a video response, calling out No on 5 for their demeaning and dehumanizing portrayal of transgender people. Watch the response below:
No on 5’s ads play into prejudice and incite anti-LGBT fear, before making claims that Anchorage is already a tolerant city. For groups facing real discrimination in the workplace, this brand of “tolerance” is far from enough. Hard-working LGBT Americans are real people who deserve real legal protections for themselves and their families.
Over 165 cities and 16 states have already enacted legal protections for transgender people. HRC has lent support to One Anchorage in advance of Tuesday’s vote, to ensure Anchorage, Eagle River, Chugiak and Girdwood are added to that list.
