Video: North Carolina Pastor Advocates Violence against Kids

Post submitted by Dan Rafter, Former HRC Associate Director of Communications

Our opponents in North Carolina are continuing to resort to some pretty shocking tactics as we approach next Tuesday’s vote on Amendment One, which stands to discriminate against loving, committed LGBT couples and harm all Tar Heel state families in the process.

We told you yesterday about the Amendment One supporter who videotaped himself firing bullets from his shotgun into a Protect All North Carolina Families sign.

Now, Good As You’s Jeremy Hooper shares footage of a North Carolina Baptist preacher making some shocking remarks to his congregation during a rant against LGBT people. According to audio posted by Hooper at Good As You, Pastor Sean Harris says:  “Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok?”

Harris later calls LGBT people “sick and ungodly,” and summarizes his argument of why he’s against marriage equality by simply saying: “…the union of two dudes is not good for America.”

We need your support to push back against the vitriol of people like Harris. HRC is proud to be a member of the Protect All North Carolina Families coalition, and we’re working to spread last-minute television ads far and wide. Please, support our efforts and help us protect North Carolina families.

Check out what we’re up against. The audio of Harris’ rant is disturbing:

Act now to help push back against this sickening anti-LGBT rhetoric.
