USA Network Airs Primetime Adoption PSA
July 25, 2011
Viewers of hit USA Network shows such as Burn Notice and Royal Pains are already familiar with the network’s public service campaign, Characters Unite, which seeks to combat intolerance and discrimination and promote respect for all people.
Actors on network shows have filmed a dozen PSAs, on everything from hate crimes to religious intolerance.
The most recent PSA is about adoption, and it premiered last week during a primetime episode of White Collar. The episode featured an adoption storyline, and the PSA stars Willie Garson (best known as Stanford Blatch, Carrie’s gay best friend on Sex and the City), who adopted a son in 2010.
Garson directs viewers to the campaign website, www.charactersunite.com, which provides links to adoption resources, including HRC’s All Children-All Families initiative. ACAF aims to increase LGBT competence among child welfare professionals and to increase awareness of opportunities to foster and adopt within the LGBT community.
