Uruguay Senate Approves Same-Sex Marriage Bill
April 2, 2013 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Coordinator
Uruguay’s Senate today voted overwhelmingly in favor of marriage equality.
The Senate voted 23-8 in favor of the same-sex marriage bill.
Uruguay’s lower house passed the bill in December of last year. The lower house is expected to approve modifications to the bill in the coming weeks. President Jose Mujica has already expressed his plans to sign the bill into law.
If approved, Uruguay will follow Argentina as the second nation in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide.
