Here's another update from Tony Wagner, HRC's Western Regional Field Director:
Marybeth and I made it to Santa Fe and after hopping off the train headed to the First Christian Church to meet up with the rest of the team for trainings. When we arrived at the church shortly after 8am, there was a room packed full of eager students being trained for the ACLU’s Student Lobby Day. These young activists will be lobbying their legislators today on several issues, including the Domestic Partnership bill. We’re all very excited to have them along side us today! After some initial training with the students and some breakfast, registration began for the LGBT Lobby Day and the line was out the door. We spent some time getting to know one another and are now in the midst of the final training of the day. Chris Salas, local LGBT organizer is conducting this session and running the group through several role playing scenarios. Everyone looks very excited to be here and to be working for equality. I must say, this is quite a site – there are well over 100 LGBT activists (not including the 50 or so students that have joined us) in the sanctuary right now and they all look eager to get over to the Roundhouse. They’re about to get their chance as we’re wrapping up the training right now and heading over to the Roundhouse. Stay tuned for more updates!
