United We Stand to Defeat the North Carolina Marriage Amendment
August 24, 2011 by Marty Rouse, National Field Director
Yesterday, HRC Regional Field Director Karin Quimby and I spent the day in Raleigh meeting with many allies in our fight to seek a legislative defeat of the constitutional amendment on marriage in North Carolina.
Openly gay legislator Marcus Brandon spoke passionately about the need to speak about this amendment from a faith perspective. He remains hopeful that legislators on both sides of the aisle will do the right thing.
We ended our day spending time with the great staff of Equality North Carolina and several of the six HRC organizers who are working alongside our EqNC partners. Karin and I were moved by the personal dedication of our friends in the Tar Heel state.
We are proud to stand with Equality North Carolina, other advocates, business, religious and other allies across the state and work together to keep North Carolina a welcoming state for all.
