UK House of Lords Advances Marriage Equality Legislation

Yesterday marriage equality in the United Kingdom took another step forward after passing the second reading of the legislation in the House of Lords.

The bill now moves to committee-mark up, and then must again pass the House of Lords.

The marriage equality legislation passed the UK House of Commons in May.

British Prime Minister David Cameron supports marriage equality and have advocated on behalf on legislation.

Should same-sex marriage pass in both house of Parliament, the UK would be the fifteenth state with legislation on the books. Additionally, Brazil and Mexico allow same-sex marriage in some jurisdictions.
