U.S. Supreme Court Refuses to Halt Marriages in Oregon
June 4, 2014 by HRC staff
The anti-equality National Organization for Marriage was dealt yet another setback today as the Supreme Court issued an order declining to halt same-sex marriages taking place in Oregon. NOM has appealed a lower court's decision not to allow them to intervene in the case that decided in favor of marriage equality for Oregon.
Ever since a federal judge ruled 16 days ago that Oregon's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional, NOM has made every attempt possible to either stop or delay the inevitable, and failed each and every time. NOM's latest appeal is currently before the Ninth Circuit.
