The Minnesota city of Mankato is known for being at the bend of the Minnesota River and as the home of the characters in the Betsy-Tacy and Tib book series.
Now, Mankato also stands out as the first southern city to oppose Minnesota’s discriminatory marriage amendment! It joins 11 other cities that have done so. You can find the full list of cities on the MN United website.
Though Minnesotans United for All Families isn’t actively working to win the support of cities, we couldn’t be more proud to see them taking up the issue on their own.
From a personal standpoint, I grew up in Mankato and came back after college to start my career. I’m extremely proud that my hometown had this productive conversation and that the City Council supports voting no on the marriage amendment!
Statewide news like this is a great opportunity to talk about why this issue is important to all Minnesotans. These one-on-one conversations are key to defeating the marriage ban in November.
Help us keep the conversation going by signing up to volunteer with the campaign. We’ve filled more than 25,000 to date - help us reach 30,000 by the end of August!
HRC is a proud supporter of the coalition, Minnesotans United for All Families, working to defeat the amendment banning same-sex marriage in the state. HRC has set up a special fund – HRC Minnesota Family Freedom PAC – to direct 100 percent of your contribution to defeat the anti-marriage constitutional amendment in Minnesota.
