Transgender ‘Matrix’ Director Makes First Public Appearance Since Transition
July 31, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Associate
The filmmaking duo behind The Matrix and V for Vendetta have released a promo video for their upcoming film, which many are describing as transgender director Lana Wachowski’s first public appearance since transitioning.
Lana appears in the clip with brother Andy Wachowski and German director Tom Tykwer. The three have teamed up to direct Cloud Atlas, a cross-genre epic based on the novel by David Mitchell. The film is due out in October.
While the Wachowskis’ public appearances are rare, Lana’s status as a major Hollywood director makes her a groundbreaking leader in transgender visibility.
