Transgender Americans Record PSA about Voter ID
October 2, 2012 by HRC staff
This post comes from HRC Editorial and Digital Media Intern Leanne Naramore:
As November’s election approaches, the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) is working to ensure transgender Americans have an equal opportunity to cast their vote.
Over 25,000 transgender Americans could lose their right to vote next month due to the new voter ID laws, according to a recent Williams Institute study. In order to educate transgender people on how to best prepare to visit the voting booth, the NCTE released a series of PSAs addressing the new laws. The videos feature transgender Americans discussing some of the challenges transgender people can expect at the polls, and how to prepare themselves as well as possible.
Some of their advice: “Even if you’ve never had a problem voting before, check your voter registration information and make sure your name and address match your current ID. And if you can, update your ID photo and gender marker now.”
