Trans 100 List: Amazing Transgender Americans Making A Difference

Post submitted by Charlie Joughin, HRC Press Secretary

Today the inaugural edition of the Trans 100 List was launched, which features and celebrates the groundbreaking work being done by transgender people across the country.  The list was introduced by We Happy Trans, a website that celebrates the positive experiences of transgender people, and This is H.O.W., a Phoenix-based non profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the lives of trans people.  Among those honored include "an independent filmmaker in Oakland, the executive director of the only LGBT center in Queens, an advocate for trans students, the first trans reality-television star, trans pioneers, as well as emerging trans voices," among many others.

The 2013 Trans 100 list was presented at an event sponsored by Chicago House, GLAAD, the Pierce Family Foundation,, and KOKUMOMEDIA.

The list also mentions two former HRC staff members - Allyson Robinson and Kylar Broadus! Allyson is now executive director of OutServe-SLDN, where she is working to achieve full LGBT equality in the military on behalf of more than 67,000 actively serving LGBT military personnel and their families.  Kylar is the founder and executive director of Trans People of Color Coalition.  He works to bring together transgender people of color for visibility, organizing, educating and advocating for their rights nationally.  Kylar was also the first transgender person in history to testify before the U.S. Senate.

A number of other incredible members of the HRC family were also featured.
