Tornado Outbreak Takes Devastating Toll on Arkansas, Oklahoma and Iowa

Yesterday a devastating series of tornadoes ripped through the south-central United States, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 people.

The entire HRC family mourns those who lost their lives in yesterday’s tornado outbreak through Arkansas, Oklahoma and Iowa. As those affected by these destructive storms begin to rebuild, we extend our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers.

Arkansas, my home state and the place hardest hit by yesterday’s storms, is one of three states where HRC will be concentrating its newly announced effort to dramatically expand LGBT equality in the South, alongside permanent campaigns in Mississippi and Alabama. HRC Arkansas, HRC Mississippi and HRC Alabama all stand in solidarity with all communities affected by this tragedy.

The Red Cross is active with immediate relief at shelters and in the areas of devastation. You can donate online directly to the Disaster Relief fund or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). You can also make a $10 donation by mobile phone when you text REDCROSS to 90999.
