Tony Perkins Appointed to Louisiana Law Enforcement Commission
September 25, 2013 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Senior Digital Strategist
This week Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal appointed Tony Perkins, president of the hate group the Family Research Council, to the state’s Commission on Law Enforcement.
Perkins is perhaps best known for spewing anti-LGBT vitriol in the media. In particular, Perkins supported Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” bill, which proposed jail terms for gay individuals, including life in prison in some circumstances.
In effect, Jindal’s appointment gives Perkins a platform to inflict his brand of anti-LGBT propaganda on a state department that awards grants, trains officers and regulates law enforcement and puts the LGBT community of Louisiana in harm's way.
