Tonight at the DNC: What to Watch

Post submitted by Eric Cameron, HRC Digital Media Specialist

The Democratic National Convention kicks off tonight in Charlotte, N.C. This year’s Democratic national platform embraces LGBT equality like never before, including support for marriage equality and a fully inclusive ENDA, and many of tonight’s speakers have taken prominent stands on behalf of LGBT Americans.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Newark Mayor Cory Booker, both contributors to HRC’s Americans for Marriage Equality Campaign, will address the convention tonight.

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, a leading advocate in his state’s fight to defend marriage equality this November, will speak later in the evening.

Other speakers include openly gay Colorado Rep. Jared Polis, North Carolina Governor and Amendment One opponent Bev Perdue and First Lady Michelle Obama.
