Thousands Welcome HRC Equality Bus to Austin Pride

This post comes from Glenn Bagley, HRC Austin MCE Co-Chair

Thousands of LGBT community members and straight allies braved the triple digit heat to attend the 2011 Austin Pride Parade & Festival on Saturday, Sept 10th.  Roger Beasley Audi provided a beautiful red convertible that carried Athlete Ally, Hudson Taylor through the streets of downtown Austin and through the rousing cheers of parade goers on the last of three days of events in Austin with HRC’s “On the Road to Equality” bus tour.  The energy was electric as the “Equality Bus” rolled through the warehouse district of downtown Austin.

Later at the festival, the dedicated Austin Steering Committee and other local volunteers worked with HRC staff to provide information to the huge crowds seeking to know more about the great work that HRC does locally & nationally.  After learning about the amazing victories we have to celebrate and the long battle that HRC continues to fight every day to ensure equality in Healthcare, the Workplace and in the community, hundreds decided to take the next step and join HRC in support of great work being done for the LGBT community.

Everyone had a great attitude, came prepared to work hard, worked well together, stayed focused on our mission to educate, engage and enroll new members, and I think we smashed our goals.  It was a great day!
