Thousands of Students Commemorate National Day of Silence

Today HRC stands in support of the students participating in the National Day of Silence.

Thousands of students across the country will remain silent for all or part of the school day to call attention to the bullying and harassment faced by LGBT youth.

Bullying is pandemic issue in our country. LGBT youth are twice as likely to say they’ve have been physically assaulted, kicked or shoved at school. A shocking 92 percent say they hear negative messages about being LGBT.

We applaud the students’ who stand in solidarity in the fight to end bullying.

National Day of Silence is sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).  For more information, visit www.dayofsilence.org.
