“The Normal Heart” Cast for Marriage Equality in New York
June 7, 2011
Today, the Human Rights Campaign released a video featuring cast members of Broadway’s “The Normal Heart” speaking out in support of marriage equality in New York. The video is part of HRC’s New Yorkers for Marriage campaign and can be viewed online at www.hrc.org/ny4marriage.
“Our play is about love and activism in an uncommon time,” the cast says in the video. “Another fight for our families is happening right now in New York over who is allowed to marry.” The cast joins dozens of other New Yorkers who have filmed video testimonials in support of extending equal marriage rights to gay and lesbian couples in the state. All of the video testimonials can be viewed at www.hrc.org/ny4marriage.
‘The Normal Heart’ is the story of a group of friends who refused to let doctors, politicians and the press ignore the growing AIDS epidemic of the 1980s. The show has earned rave reviews and has been nominated for five Tony Awards.
