The Growing Campaign in Minnesota

The following post comes from HRC Minnesota’s Leah Solo:

August has been a dynamic month for the Minnesotans United for All Families, the coalition campaign to defeat the anti-marriage amendment on Minnesota’s ballot in November 2012.

One of the most exciting moments this month was the unanimous vote by the Minnesota AFL-CIO board on a resolution opposing the amendment. Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson declared “We will not stand by and allow discrimination to become part of Minnesota’s constitution.”

Having the support of Minnesota’s largest labor federation representing more than 300,000 working people is an incredible boost to the campaign.  As we gear up for the next 15 months of campaigning, the early support of the MN AFL-CIO will make a tremendous difference.

Another notable moment was the campaign website launch. The website tells the stories of diverse Minnesota families that believe in the power of marriage, the strength of family, the beauty of love, the value of commitment, and who have come together on this campaign. It also features all of the needed campaign functions- volunteer sign up, donation, and update pages.

We’re off to a great start here in Minnesota!
