The Fight for Marriage in New Jersey Continues

The following post is from HRC New Jersey Field Organizer Amber-Monique Johnson
As one of HRC's newest additions to the New Jersey United for Marriage (NJUM) campaign team, I am excited to join the dedicated individuals working to override Governor Chris Christie’s marriage veto.
As part of NJUM, HRC is on the ground with our partners at Garden State Equality to encourage New Jerseyans in key districts to call on their legislators to override the veto and pass marriage equality once and for all.
Although 2012's marriage equality bill passed in the Senate and Assembly, thousands of gay and lesbian couples' dreams were crushed when Governor Christie vetoed the bill.
In preparation for the campaign, I worked with HRC steering committee members in the state to find supporter housing for the marriage campaigners. I have been blown away by the enthusiasm of HRC members and supporters who have generously opened their doors to our team. In particular, I’m thankful to be housed by Gary Hilbert, a co-chair on HRC's Steering Committee, and his partner Monty, who have been extremely welcoming and hospitable towards me.
Providing supporter housing is just one way supporters can help the campaign and ensure that we win marriage in the Garden State.
