Thanking Our Friends in Nevada

Nevada State Senator Justin Jones and HRC’s Marty Rouse

Nevada senate Majority Leader Mo Denis and Assistant Majority Leader Debbie Smith dropped by HRC Headquarters today.

Earlier this year, thanks in large part to the leadership of Senators Denis and Smith, the Nevada legislature took a key step along the multi-year path to marriage equality in the Silver State.  They voted to repeal the current ban on marriage and replace it with a marriage equality law.  If the 2015 legislature votes in favor as well, the question to win marriage would then be put to the voters in November, 2016.

It was great to hear directly from two of Nevada’s legislative champions of equality. They spoke movingly of how proud they were to have taken this key first step towards marriage equality.

In Las Vegas last month, I was fortunate to meet Senator Justin Jones who was considered a key vote in the passing of the marriage bill.

HRC looks forward to continuing to work with these and other allies in order to secure marriage equality in Nevada.
