Earlier this month, members of the Cincinnati City Council voted 8-1 to study how to offer health insurance benefits to the domestic partners of city employees. This study is the first step in assessing the need for and the potential cost of offering domestic partner benefits. Please send a message of thanks today to the eight councilors who voted in favor of the study.
Council member Chris Seelbach introduced the motion, saying, "As we continue to compete for jobs and talent, I don't want to lose someone because they say they can’t afford to lose benefits for their partner." City employees in Cleveland and Columbus can already sign up their unmarried partners for health insurance, and employees in Louisville will have that option beginning in July. Many major local companies also offer domestic partner health insurance benefits, including Procter & Gamble, Kroger, Macy's, and Fifth Third Bank.
