Recently, Landry Kelly, a Texas four-year-old, was denied a chance to apply to a local Montessori school because he has same-sex parents. His mothers, Dawn and Tracy Kelly, were initially told that they would be permitted to apply, but later received a call from the school’s director stating that was not the case.
The director claimed that they would not enroll the Kelly’s son because their partnership was against her religion, stating, “…we don’t live that way.” The school’s owner later wanted to offer Landry a chance to apply, but the Kellys turned it down.
This case is just the latest of legal discrimination made against the children of same-sex couples. In 2010, children in both Massachusetts and Colorado were denied admission to schools on the basis of their parent’s sexual orientation.
