Texas House Gains an Openly LGBT Representative
May 30, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Associate
After a decisive primary victory last night, Mary González will become Texas’ only openly LGBT state lawmaker.
Mary González won yesterday’s Democratic primary for District 75 in the House of Representatives. She faces no Republican opponent in November.
González has specialized in multicultural programming and curriculum development and, among other roles, co-chairs the Board of Directors for allgo, Texas' statewide organization for queer people of color.
González will become Texas’ second ever openly LGBT state lawmaker, following former State Rep. Glen Maxey. HRC congratulates Mary González on this major victory!
