Texas GOP Platform to Include Support for Conversion Therapy

This past weekend the Texas Republican Party adopted a change to their platform that would embrace conversion therapy for LGBT individuals. The change was introduced at the Texas GOP’s convention last Thursday, where they met to address changes to their party’s platform.
Delegates added in anti-LGBT language supporting therapy or treatment for LGBT individuals. The platform reads, “We recognize the legitimacy and value of counseling which offers reparative therapy and treatment to patients who are seeking escape from the homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy.”
Conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy, is a dangerous practice throughly denounced by every major medical and mental health organization in the United States. Further, there is significant evidence of great harm to LGBT individuals resulting from the practice of conversion therapy.
In case you missed it, this week Anderson Cooper took Texas Republican State Rep. Bryan Hughes to task over his continued support of the harmful practice of reparative therapy. Watch the video now.
