Tennessee’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill Scrapped
May 1, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Tennessee’s infamous “Don’t Say Gay” bill will die with the close of the current legislative session, according to the Knoxville News. The bill’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Joey Hensley, pulled the bill from consideration.
HRC joined with the Tennessee Equality Project last week in strongly condemning the legislation, and launched a petition calling on Governor Bill Haslam and House Speaker Beth Harwell to speak out forcefully against it. A revised version of the bill prohibited “classroom instruction, course materials or other informational resources that are inconsistent with natural human reproduction.”
