Tennessee Lawmakers Dub August 31 a “Traditional Marriage Day”

Tennessee state lawmakers passed a resolution to observe as a day each year to celebrate “traditional marriage.”
The resolution, which tapped August 31 as “I Do for Life Traditional Marriage Day,” passed both the State House and Senate.
The Tennessee Equality Project is striking back, proclaiming August 31 is instead “Tennessee Marriage Equality Day.”
“The best way to uphold the value of marriage in our state is to open this venerable institution to committed, loving couples regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity…” TEP stated in a proclamation released on April 18.
Under Tennessee’s state constitution marriage is defined as between a man and a woman.
