Tell the Senate: Protect LGBT People from Domestic Violence
April 25, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Coordinator
Any day now, the Senate will press ahead with reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) – this time with protections for LGBT people who face an uphill battle when seeking help.
All too often, people are turned away from domestic abuse shelters and support groups simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
VAWA reauthorization could put a stop to this discrimination, but hostile amendments from anti-LGBT senators threaten to strip those protections from the bill.
Take action now, and urge your senators to vote now on VAWA reauthorization and to oppose any poison-pill amendments.
