Teaming Up for Fairness and Equality in West Virginia
January 17, 2013 by HRC staff
This post comes from HRC Regional Field Director Lynne Bowman:
This week I’ve been in Charleston, West Virginia, working with the team at Fairness West Virginia on passing a law in the upcoming legislative session to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. West Virginia is one of 29 states without a law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment and housing. There is a lot of momentum in the state to advance this critical law when the state legislature convenes in mid-February, and Fairness is putting together a great team to make it happen!
Adam Briskin-Limehouse has started as the new campaign manager for Fairness West Virginia. Before coming to West Virginia, Adam managed the field organizing program that helped win marriage equality in Maryland.
HRC is proud to partner with Fairness West Virginia and pro-equality state lawmakers in the effort to prohibit anti-LGBT discrimination in the Mountain State. Success this year will make West Virginia a leader among its neighboring states and send a strong signal to businesses that the state is serious about fostering a 21st century workforce.
