Tammy Baldwin Speaking at Democratic Convention
August 23, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Associate Director of Communications
Tammy Baldwin will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention in two weeks in Charlotte. The DNC announced Baldwin and several other prominent women will get top spots in Charlotte.
Tammy Baldwin – the first open lesbian to serve in the U.S. House – is running against former Bush administration official Tommy Thompson for a seat in the U.S. Senate representing Wisconsin. Should she win, she would be the first openly gay U.S. Senator. Tammy is the founder and co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, and she’s a leader on issues of LGBT equality – particularly ending workplace discrimination via the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
Other prominent leaders announced as speakers along with Tammy include former Assistant Secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs Tammy Duckworth, NARAL President Nancy Keenan, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, Carolina Kennedy, and Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD).
With Paul Ryan on the ticket, Wisconsin once again is poised to be a key state in this election – get involved now and support Tammy Baldwin in her fight for the Senate.
