Talking Healthcare, Faith in Nebraska
June 13, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
HRC President Chad Griffin was in Omaha yesterday to talk about HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index, as well as the crossroads of faith and LGBT equality.
Chad was joined by LGBT health expert Shane Snowdon at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to talk about inequities LGBT people face in the healthcare system. Snowdon spoke to what can be done to tackle those stubborn disparities, and how HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index is a valued tool in ensuring LGBT people can access competent, patient-centered care.
Later in the day, Chad met with religious leaders at First Central Congregational Church, UCC, in Omaha. HRC’s Director of Religion & Faith, Dr. Sharon Groves, will have more on that event tomorrow.
Chad wrapped up his time in Nebraska by getting to know the local LGBT community during a celebration at The Slowdown. Check out pictures from the community gathering and other events in Nebraska:
