Taking Action in Anne Arundel County

Post submitted by Jess Osborn, Former HRC Staff

Marylanders for Marriage Equality spent time this weekend talking to voters in Anne Arundel County in an effort to continue awareness about marriage equality.  We took the time to talk with voters and inform people about how to take action.

Most people didn’t know that gay and lesbian couples could not get married in Maryland, so we spent a few hours informing them about the process and how to get engaged.  It was great to talk with so many people who were supportive of strengthening families and communities.  It was a cold couple of hours, but the constituents of Annapolis were so kind that someone surprised me with a cup of hot chocolate.

By the end of the day we collected close to 100 postcards in support of marriage equality and recruited a half dozen volunteers. Once session begins next year, Marylanders for Marriage Equality will hand-deliver all the postcards we’ve collected to demonstrate the voices of Marylanders who support marriage equality.
