TAKE ACTION: North Dakota House to hold hearing on banning discrimination against LGBT people
March 13, 2009
The North Dakota Human Rights Commission has announced that on Wednesday, the North Dakota House Human Services Committee will hold a hearing on SB 2278, legislation to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in housing, employment, credit, insurance, public accommodations and services. North Dakota already prohibits discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin and disability. The hearing will be held Wednesday, March 18 at 10 a.m in the Brynhild Haugland Room at the State Capitol in Bismarck. The anti-LGBT North Dakota Family Alliance is working with Focus on the Family (FOF) to stop the bill from passing. They've already issued an audio action alert that specifically targets the bill's inclusion of public accomodations. FOF's Tom Minnery digs up the right wing's favorite "restroom scare" tactic against transgender people to promote the lie that the bill will open the door for "sexual predators going after young children." We've heard this stuff before - and now we've got to do our part to overcome their lies. TAKE ACTION: Use HRC's action alert to contact the North Dakota legislators and urge them to support SB 2278. And when you're done, go to EndTheLies.org to call Tom Minnery out for equating transgender people with sexual predators.
