Supporting the New Marriage Equality Bill in Maryland
January 26, 2011 by Marty Rouse, National Field Director
The Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act was introduced at a press conference sponsored by Equality Maryland in Annapolis yesterday attended by over two dozen legislators as well as representatives from several supportive organizations including the Human Rights Campaign. HRC has ten staff working alongside Equality Maryland, helping to build the largest grassroots campaign in support of LGBT equality ever seen in Maryland. From our field team mobilizing the thousands of HRC's Maryland members and other supporters of marriage equality to our Religion and Faith staff working with Catholics for Equality and other religious voices to our Diversity staff working with the Maryland Black Family Alliance, HRC is partnering in strategic ways to make marriage equality a reality in the Free State this year. Governor Martin O'Malley has stated that he will sign the bill if it arrives on his desk. To help get the bill to Governor O'Malley's desk, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
