The following post comes from Rebecca Tillet, Co-Chair of the HRC Board of Directors:
HRC supporters from Long Island and the Greater NY area gathered on Sunday, July 15, at the home of hosts Mary Lindely and Andrea Miritello to celebrate the first anniversary of marriage equality in the state and to raise funds for the HRC New York PAC.
“We need to make sure that the Senators who took hard votes for marriage equality know they can count on our support,” said HRC Senior Regional Field Organizer David Turley, who led our field effort in New York. David came up to speak from Maryland, where he is working on this fall’s marriage referendum. “The eyes of elected officials in every state considering marriage equality are on this fall’s New York elections.”
The event was held from 4 to 6 pm. Rain threatened but never came, but at 6:01 pm the deluge started. Everyone remarked that someone above is clearly on the side of the LGBT community!
One year ago marriage equality became law in New York, thanks to the hard work of countless fair-minded New Yorkers and our supportive legislators. HRC is raising funds for our allies in the New York State Legislature who helped make history and who will assure that we protect the new marriage equality law. Please support our brave allies in the New York State Legislature today.
Thank you for standing with HRC as we proudly continue the long, amazing, historic efforts to win and protect our rights in NY and beyond. For more information on how you can help and get involved with HRC Greater New York, please contact David Turley at email@example.com.
