Support HRC’s Efforts to Stop McCain - The Obstructer-in-Chief
June 9, 2010
When John McCain, the man who could have been our president, starts staking his career on blocking LGBT equality – it's time for every American, gay or straight, who believes in basic fairness to take a stand. First he tried to derail the hate crimes bill. Now he's announcing that he will "without a doubt" help block a vote on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in the Senate. Meanwhile, the right-wing Family Research Council is claiming that repealing this law will increase sexual assault in the military and "undermine the religious liberties" of military chaplains. Our matching gift offer ends at midnight TONIGHT and your support right now could make the difference. Please give by MIDNIGHT to have your donation matched – and give HRC double the resources for this final push. This is about more than just the military. The outcome of this fight will have huge implications for the broader struggle for equality for years to come. This is the time. And it won't last. Through today only, HRC board member Bruce Bastian has offered to double all gifts, up to $125,000, to help HRC keep up the pressure in the national and local media and shore up critical support in the Senate. We need to reach that $125,000 goal if we're going to win. With your help we've waged the fight against "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" not just with hundreds of thousands of emails and phone calls, but with long-term organizing across the country – our lobbying blitz brought over 300 military veterans to Capitol Hill; we generated unprecedented media coverage nationwide; and we trained and placed grassroots organizers on the ground in key states like Florida, Indiana, Nebraska, Virginia and West Virginia.
