Summer Means Sun and Farmers’ Markets; Perfect Place to Organize for ENDA

Post submitted by Christian Whipple, one of HRC's field organizers on the ground in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Growing up in Framington, Utah, I have always known this state to be an interesting place in a very politically diverse nation. Utah can often times be behind the curve in issues around the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community but that doesn't stop the need to work harder every day.
We're on the ground in Utah, working with the community on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Right now, LGBT Utahns can be fired for simply being who they are. Senator Orrin Hatch, a close family friend, sits on the important Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee. The HELP committee is likely to take up ENDA any day this summer and we're working to make sure Senator Hatch knows that LGBT Utahns and ALL Americans deserve equality.
In the coming weeks we will work with our community partners in the state, including Equality Utah and the Pride Center, contacting Senator Hatch to ensure LGBT Utahns get the equality they deserve.
As a lifelong Utahn, I want to make sure that I am judged on merit and not because of who I am. We need your help. To get involved in Utah, contact Christian Whipple at Christian.Whipple@hrc.org.
