Suit Filed Over DC Elections Board Marriage Referendum Decision
June 17, 2009
After Monday's decision by the DC Board of Elections and Ethics to block a ballot measure on recognizing legal marriages performed elsewhere, opponents of equality wasted no time going to court to challenge their decision. According to the Washington Post, Bishop Harry Jackson is leading the charge in the lawsuit filed in DC Superior Court today. If the effort to force a referendum on the question is not successful and barring congressional action, the law will take effect in early July. UPDATE: Washington City Paper has more.
