Suffolk County NY Dems Fight For Equality

Equality issues are at the forefront of the New York Legislature, and in Suffolk County, local volunteers are ensuring that LGBT concerns are a priority for legislators. This photo is from a recent Suffolk County Democratic Convention where volunteers from the Long Island LGBT Coalition are demanding their elected officials focus on two priorities: marriage equality in New York and including gender identity in the state's non-discrimination law. It's great to see such wonderful organizing going on at this critical time for the Empire State. On a related note, county officials recently nixed a bus ad paid for by the LGBT Coalition to raise public awareness of marriage equality citing a policy of not accepting "political" advertisements.
